The aim of Sarva Ashram Foundation is to take care of helpless and sick cows. But nowadays, cowsheds are not just becoming a center of service but also a medium of self-reliance and rural development. Many types of work are done for cowsheds in Sarva Ashram Foundation. Which we divide into some major categories:
Care and management of cows: – The most important work of Sarva Ashram Foundation is to take good care of cows. Some important tasks for this are as follows:
* Health and medicine: – Sarva Ashram Foundation has a system of regular health checkup, timely vaccination, and immediate treatment in case of illness for cows. For this, a veterinarian is regularly called to the cowshed. Deworming is also done regularly to protect cows from parasites and other diseases.
* Housing and cleanliness: – The cowshed is constructed in such a way that cows can be protected from sun, rain and cold. The shed is ventilated and the floor is kept clean. Regular cleaning of the cowshed prevents the spread of flies and germs.
* Nutritious diet: Cows are given nutritious and balanced diet according to their age and physical condition. This includes green fodder, dry fodder and supplementary nutrition. Clean and fresh water is always available for the cows.
Making the cowshed self-reliant: Sarva Ashram Foundation does not depend only on donations, but also generates income from the resources of the cowshed. This enables the cowshed to be operated in a better way. Some important tasks for this are as follows:
* Production of organic manure: Making organic manure from cow dung is a very beneficial work. Compost manure or vermicompost (earthworm manure) is prepared by mixing cow dung, cow urine and other organic substances. By selling this manure to farmers, good income is earned for the cowshed, as well as it is very beneficial for the environment.
* Biogas plant: There are many benefits of setting up a cow dung gas plant in the cowshed. This makes proper use of cow dung and produces energy, which is used for cooking or electricity in the cowshed. The slurry coming out of the cow dung gas plant also acts as an excellent organic fertilizer.
* Panchagavya products:- Panchagavya products, medicines and pesticides are made from cow dung, cow urine, milk, curd and ghee. These products are in great demand in the market and many requirements of the cowshed are fulfilled by selling them.
Community participation and education:- Sarva Ashram Foundation does not limit the cowshed to just one place but also connects it with the community. Some important works for this are as follows:
* Awareness campaign:- Sarva Ashram Foundation organizes programs to spread awareness about the importance of cows and their conservation in cowsheds.
* Connecting volunteers:- Sarva Ashram Foundation encourages local people to join the work of the cowshed as volunteers. This gives additional help to the cowshed and also increases the spirit of service among the people.
