“Water is life” – this is not just a saying, but a reality. Sarva Ashram Foundation believes that water is not just a means of life, but the basis of development and equality. Only when water is clean and accessible, health will improve, education will continue and livelihoods will be strengthened. Even today, millions of people in India and many parts of the world are deprived of safe and clean drinking water. In rural areas, women and children are forced to walk several kilometers every day to fetch water. In urban slum areas, people drink contaminated water, which spreads diseases and also affects children’s education.
With this thought, we have started the program “Water for All – Clean, Accessible & Sustainable”.
Our aim is:
* To provide safe and clean drinking water to every family.
* To ensure water and sanitation facilities in schools and Anganwadis.
* To save water for future generations through rainwater harvesting and water-source revival.
* To inspire communities towards healthy living by providing WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) education.
Sarva Ashram Foundation believes that every drop makes a difference. That is why we are working at the grassroots level to tackle problems like water scarcity, pollution and unequal access.
Challenges and our Solutions
Main Challenges :-
1. Lack of clean water
* People in rural and urban slum areas often consume contaminated water.
* This spreads diseases like diarrhea, cholera, typhoid and hepatitis.
2. Traveling long distances
* Women and children waste 3-5 kilometers every day just to fetch water.
* This affects children’s education and women’s livelihood.
3. Water pollution
* Factory waste, chemical fertilizers and plastic waste are contaminating groundwater and rivers.
* This is directly affecting health and the environment.
4. Climate change and drought
* Water sources are drying up due to erratic rainfall and drought.
* Water crisis becomes more severe during the summer season.
5. Lack of awareness
* There is a lack of hygiene and water conservation habits.
* Many people waste water and do not use techniques like rainwater harvesting.
Our Solution :-
1. Safe drinking water supply
* Install water tanks and hand pumps in villages and slum areas.
* Provide filters and RO systems to purify water.
2. School and community water projects
* Provide safe water and handwash stations in every school.
* Provide WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) education to children.
3. Rainwater harvesting and water conservation
* Install rainwater harvesting systems at schools, panchayat bhawans and community centres.
* Revitalize ponds, wells and tube wells in villages.
4. Sanitation campaigns and awareness
* Organize workshops on drinking boiled water, handwashing and hygiene.
* Spread awareness through street plays, posters and rallies.
5. Community Participation
* Involving local people in management by forming Water Committees.
* Giving responsibility to women and youth by making them “Water Guards”.
Sarv Ashram Foundation believes that if we work together, water crisis can be turned into an opportunity. The dream of making every village and every city “water self-reliant” is our biggest inspiration.
Our Initiatives and Projects
1. Clean Drinking Water Project
* RO systems, water filters and community tanks have been installed in rural and urban slum areas.
* Thousands of families are now getting safe and clean water regularly.
* Pure water facility has been provided especially for children in schools and Anganwadis.
2. Rainwater Harvesting Program
* Rainwater harvesting system has been installed in schools, panchayat buildings and villages.
* Rainwater is being collected and used to increase the groundwater level and as drinking water.
* This initiative is proving to be helpful in reducing the water problem during drought and summer.
3. Pond and Well Revival Campaign
* Old ponds, wells and tube wells were cleaned and repaired in many villages.
* They were reactivated as water sources by desilting and strengthening the banks.
* This not only increased water storage but also improved the groundwater level.
4. Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Education Program
* Children and youth were educated about the importance of hand washing, drinking boiled water and hygiene.
* Handwash stations and clean toilets were provided in schools.
* Community awareness was created through street plays, workshops and rallies.
5. Community Water Committee
* Local water committees were formed in every village and settlement.
* Women and youth were especially involved in these committees.
* They take responsibility for the care, cleaning and maintenance of water sources.
Through these initiatives, Sarva Ashram Foundation has not only provided water to the people but also made them aware about the importance and conservation of water.
Our dream is to provide clean and safe water to every family, every child and every village.
